The new process we introduced to facilitate submission to repetiore to SoundExchange required us to make changes and improvements to various aspects of our catalog modules. From the outset, of implemented this revamped process we set out to empower you to complete as much as the process as possible, ensure your registrations are as accurate, comprehensive and complete as possible and minimize the potential for errors if not eliminate errors entirely, maintain the flexibility of our platform and improve the efforts it takes for you to administer your rights via our platform. These objectives are front of mind during every phase of development we undergo with the platform. We feel the updates which we will be documenting here has achieved these objectives we're always interested in knowing how we can improve our platform to make administering your publishing and master recording rights easier.
Recording / Release Registrations
When proceeding to submit a Recording or Release registration for the first time for a label entity which hasm't been fully configured for repetiore submission to SoundExchange, you will be presented with a quick questionnaire asking if the label entity is affiliated with SoundExchange and whether the entity has a DDEX Party Identifier (DPID) or needs to apply to have one assigned. The DPID is a unique identifier that identifies the specific sender and receiver or a DDEX formatted message.
Primary Label Identifier
In order to determine which label entity will be submitting the Recording to SoundExhcnage, we've introduced a Primary Label selector to the Master Recording Ownership section of the recording module. The label that is specified by you as the Primary label is the label entity which will need to be fully configured to send repertoire information to SoundExchange.
In addition, when registering a Release, the label entity specified as the Release Label will be the label which will need to be configured for repertoire submission for SoundExchange within our system. Label entitles may differ in instances where a single is released under one label but an album (ep/compilation) containing that single is being released by another label.
Introduction of DPID Contact Module
If your label entity already has a DDEX Party Identifier we introduced a DPID field within the contact module store this information. Once a registration has been successfully processed by this label entity the DPID field will be locked and cannot be changed.
Apply for DPID
If you need to obtain a DPID for your label entity, you will be presented with a form within our system which will collect all the information necessary to obtain a DPID. This information once submitted will be forwarded to our Customer Support team who will facilitate the registration process for you and will provide you with additional instructions.
Ability to Download DDEX Messages
Within the Recording and Release modules, on the right hand side, you will be able to download the DDEX messages for their respective registrations. The DDEX message is an exact copy if the message we relayed on your label entity's behalf.
Copyright Owner Drop Down
We've switched the (P) Copyright line within the Recording module to assist you in efficiently and accurately entering your metadata in this module. In order for an entity to appear in this drop-down it will need be identified within the Contacts module as a label entity.
Introduction of Contributor Roles
In the Recording Module we introduced DDEX compliant music contributor roles which enables us to accurately communicate the roles of the contributors to SoundExchange.
Audio Duration Detection
We've implemented an independent sever-side audio duration detection to our system which has resulted in a meaningful decrease in the time it takes the system to determine and record the duration of your uploaded Sound Recording. We also added a visual element to the Recording details section within the Recording module which will enable you at-a-glance check the duration and ensure you've associated the correct audio to the recording record.
Split Master Recordings
We've added support for the long requested ability to Split Master Recording ownership. Regardless of how many labels are splitting the ownership of the Master Recording only one can and will need to be identified as the Primary label. The label that is specified as the Primary Label will be the Rights Owner who will be submitting the recording information to SoundExchange including the share of the other entities.
Improved Drop Down Navigation
It is now possible to navigate all in-app drop down menus by using your keyboard and typing out the option you're looking to select.
Module Independence
Each module now works independently and you no longer will be required to link your Recordings to a Release, however, it remains best practice in regards to managing your music metadata but in an effort to reduce friction to our system we have removed enforcement but have maintained the functionality and will continue to communicate the linkage between your assets to our partners when you've linked the assets. We've also added a visual indicator in the Song Module on the repositioned Primary Recording section to encourage you to link your composition to the sound recording as in practice we have found this significantly increases the chance of your performances being matched properly at the music rights collection societies.
Enhanced ISRC Validation
We're always enhancing our validation engine and with the recent changes to the our system we took the opportunity to enhance our ISRC validation to assist you in administering your musical rights to ensure we continue to deliver the best quality music and sound recording metadata to our partners. Our ISRC validation now not only validate the syntax of the ISRC codes but we also validate the country code of the ISRC ensuring that you are aware if an invalid ISRC code was been grabbed preempting unintentional metadata issues from affecting your catalog at the music rights societies you register your works through via our system.
